Van Meter breaks ground on Iowa City Facility
Corridor Business Journal, June 12, 2011 – Van Meter Inc., a Cedar Rapids-based electrical parts wholesaler, broke ground Thursday on a 22,840 square foot facility to be built on Ruppert Road, near the Iowa City airport.
The building will meet LEED certification requirements. Features of the new facility will include roof-top solar panels, geothermal heating and cooling system, daylight harvesting system, electric vehicle charging stations, and a building power monitoring system.
The office also comes equipped with a drive-thru pick up lane, allowing customers the convenience of picking up their orders without having to exit their vehicle.
This will replace Van Meter's current Iowa City location, which the company has occupied since 1995 and has managed to outgrow due to the market growth the company has experienced.
"Our new facility will not only be energy efficient, it will also serve as a showcase of our products for customers to see prior to investing," Todd Ettleman, Van Meter's regional sales vice president, stated in a press release. "We sell energy efficient products such as solar panels, daylight harvesting systems, vehicle charging stations, power monitoring systems, lighting and more."
In recent months, Van Meter's product and service offering in clean energy has expanded to include energy efficiency, renewable energy and smart grid technologies. The company performs on-site facility analyses and creates one comprehensive plan for customers to reduce energy that encompasses all of Van Meter's energy efficient products and solutions.
Van Meter is an employee-owned distributor of automation, data communications, electrical, lighting, power transmissions and utility supplies, services and custom solutions. The company has 12 locations statewide and serves contractor, commercial, industrial, institutional, original equipment manufacturers and utility markets.
