How to Connect Your Micro800 PLC to a VFD and Add Class 1 Tags

Save time programming controllers with predefined tags.

Do you know how much time could you save programming your PLCs if you didn’t need to manually create your own tags? Well, now you can find out. Connecting and integrating your Micro850 or Micro870 controller with a PowerFlex 520-series variable frequency drive (VFD) is now easier than ever thanks to Class 1 communication and pre-defined tags within the Connected Components Workbench (CCW) software. Watch Van Meter’s Power Control Specialist Kerry Dahl show you how to add Class 1 tags, and check out the resources below to save more time programming your controllers.

DOWNLOAD CONNECTED COMPONENTS WORKBENCH SOFTWARE

Communication between the PLC and the VFD requires CCW. You can download the free standard edition of CCW on Rockwell Automation’s Product Compatibility and Download Center (PCDC). Make sure you download version 21 or later, as any version before 21 will not support Class 1 tags.

In the past, you had to create your own tags once you connected the PLC to the drive. Now, you can access a library of predefined tags as soon as you connect. With CCW version 21 or later, Rockwell Automation’s Micro 850 (2080-L50E) and Micro 870 (2080-L70E) controllers support Class 1 Ethernet/IP communication and predefined tags with PowerFlex 520-series and Kinetix 5100 drives.
