Event Raises Money for Children’s Miracle Network
Each year there are more than 170,000 children who are treated at the University of Iowa (UI) Children’s Hospital. The Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals are dedicated to raising funds and awareness that benefit the patients and their families, covering everything from research and treatments to equipment to education materials.
This year, Van Meter Inc. selected the UI Children’s Miracle Network as the recipient of its annual Night at the Races charity event. Community members, customers and employees were invited to enjoy a night at Hawkeye Downs Raceway with an admission fee of a $1 minimum donation with 100% of the proceeds directed to the Children’s Miracle Network to benefit the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.
The event also included a celebrity Legend Car Pride Race between Tim Dwight of the Atlanta Falcons and Iowa Hawkeyes; CBS2 Sports Director, Jared Aarons; and Van Meter executive Mike Gassmann in which Gassmann took home the trophy. Footballs autographed by Dwight were auctioned off to raise additional funds.
The event was more than an opportunity to entertain the community. During a ceremony presentation held July 7, 2011, Van Meter presented Children’s Miracle Network representatives Michelle Altmaier and Ashly Lagneaux with a check for $4807.
