This year, Van Meter Inc. selected the UI Children’s Miracle Network as the recipient of its annual Night at the Races charity event. Community members, customers and employees were invited to enjoy a night at Hawkeye Downs Raceway with an admission fee of a $1 minimum donation with 100% of the proceeds directed to the Children’s Miracle Network to benefit the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.

Van Meter Inc., a Cedar Rapids-based electrical parts wholesaler, broke ground Thursday on a 22,840 square foot facility to be built on Ruppert Road, near the Iowa City airport.

May 12, 2011 (Washington, DC) – Van Meter Industrial, an employee-owned company headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been selected by The ESOP Association as the 2011 ESOP Company of the Year. The award was presented at the Association’s 34th Annual Conference in Washington, DC. The ESOP Association is the national trade association for companies with employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs) and the leading voice in America for employee ownership.

On February 10th, 2011, United Way of East Central Iowa (UWECI) presented Van Meter with an award for their 2010 Pacesetter efforts in the organization’s annual fundraising campaign. Van Meter kicked off the campaign by raising $54,009 (a 21% increase over 2009). For the overall campaign, Van Meter challenged the community with a $50,000 matching grant towards new and increased donations. As part of a step-up challenge, the company also donated a $2,500 home entertainment award package. In all, the UWECI was able to reach an all-time record of $10,512,000.

At the February 2011 supplyForce National Meeting, Jason Alt, Employee Owner and National Accounts Manager for Van Meter, was named 2010 Owner-Member of the Year for the Electrical Supply Division. Alt also received the award in 2005, making Van Meter and Alt the first and only two-time winners.

On January 29th, Van Meter hosted their 10th annual Sioux City customer appreciation hockey night event where customers and their families were treated to dinner and a Musketeers game.
