The Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensing requires licensed electricians to earn 18 CEUs every three years. All state of Iowa licensed Master, Journeyman and Residential Electricians must take at least six hours of the most recent National Electrical Code (NEC) and 12 hours of related installation technique.

2025 is the final year of this three-year CEU cycle, so don’t risk your electrical license by waiting until the last minute. This causes extra stress, and you may need to travel many miles to attend the classes you need if there are none nearby.
