The NFPA-70E - Standards for Electrical Safety in the Workplace outlines many requirements for the purpose of keeping one of our most valuable resources - our electrical maintenance individuals - safe and prepared while working in some of our most dangerous jobs. While it may be fairly well known that this text provides our workers with the knowledge necessary to do their jobs safely, what many may not be aware of is that OSHA and IOSH use this text as a direct reference for writing their rules and requirements of employers and supervisors in the workplace. The 70E lays out many standards and requirements focused on the employer's responsibility to their employees. Being aware of these requirements can save a company from fines, damage to equipment and property, and most importantly - lost time injuries.
