Iowa Electricians Test Preparatory Class

COURSE PURPOSE

Iowa’s electrical licensure requirements require applicants to be tested for Journeyman and Master Electrician Class A status. These class sessions are designed to assist in developing test taking skills for individuals who have a working knowledge of the trade, materials and terms of the National Electrical Code (NEC). It is not required to be an expert of the NEC. Through use of the code in sessions, in-class tests and homework, students will reacquaint themselves with the basics of the NEC.

COURSE SYLLABUS

Day 1

  • Requirements for licensure
  • Basic theory and math for electrical exams
  • Non-code knowledge of the trade
  • Closed-book practice exam
  • NEC article 90 through 22 0
  • Homework – practice exam

Day 2

  • NEC articles 225, 230 and 240
  • NEC article 250
  • NEC chapter 3
  • NEC chapter 4
  • NEC chapters 5, 6 and 7
  • Mock timed electrical exam

Who should attend?

Individuals who are familiar with the electrical trade being tested to reach Journeyman and Master Electrician Class A status should take this course.

Student Materials

Students should bring a current version of the NEC Codebook.

Hands-on Experience

You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the NEC by using the NEC in class sessions, in-class tests and homework.
